The
European Information Technology Observatory has predicted that the
demand for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and e-business
specialists in the UK will rise 38% between the years 2000 and 2003,
with shortfalls predicted to increase from 330,000 in 2000 to 620,000
by 2003.What is IT?
IT
is short for Information Technology, a broad term covering all aspects
of managing and processing information. Computer software, hardware,
the Internet and networks that tie it all together are key to these
systems that IT workers design, develop, support or manage.
As
everyone knows, the industry is constantly changing. The skills
employers are looking for in IT staff are very diverse in scope.
One significant trend is that employers and the military are starting
to recognise the value of industry certifications.. Though it is
not necessarily 100% the certification they are after, it is primarily
the skills the current or potential employee brings to the work
environment.
A few
of the "Hot" areas of need are:
Basic hardware and Troubleshooting skills (A+)
Network design, architecture and support (Network+,)
Networking System Engineers (MCP, MCSE, MCSA, Network+)
